McGregor Construction Updates

Week 19 Major Construction Update

Phase 2A (Main Street from 3rd to 5th Street) will now be opened up to traffic starting mid-day August 14th. This process is anticipated to take a few hours so please bear with us as we shift the traffic pattern.  Once the revised detour is in place, 7th Street (in front of the Catholic Church) WILL BE CLOSED from Garnavillo Ave to C Street which will significantly impact traffic patterns on the west of town. Click →here← to view a map outlining updates to local traffic control.

‼️ Here are some important details to note:

  • A large portion of McGregor including the downtown business district is easily navigable especially when entering and leaving McGregor from Hwy 76 along the riverfront between McGregor & Marquette.

  • Motorists entering McGregor from Business 18/ State Highway 76 (White Springs Hill) will not be able to access the downtown (or much beyond the school) from this direction.  You will be able to access the school, the Great River Care Center, St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  (See Semi, RV, Camper & Trailer Detour Info below if you are a camper.)

  • Those entering or leaving McGregor via the Great River Road/ Walton Street (headed to/ from Pikes Peak, Clayton or Guttenberg) will be detoured onto C Street for a few short blocks.  Please note, this route is only for cars, SUVs, and standard sized trucks.

  • The St. Mary’s parking lot next to the St. Paul Lutheran Church will serve as a temporary pickup and dropoff location for students.  From here, students will be directed to use a pedestrian path to access the school/ bus stop location.  (See the staggered yellow path outlined on the map.)

  • At this time, the temporary No Parking restrictions will remain in place on Ann Street, as we monitor traffic flow to and from the temporary student pickup/ dropoff location.

  • New temporary No Parking restrictions will be in place on 5th Street near the First Congregational Church to accommodate increased two-way traffic.

‼️ Semi, RV, Camper & Trailer Detour Info:

  • Those with RV’s, campers, and trailers headed to Pikes Peak, Sny Magill, Clayton or Guttenberg want to enter McGregor from Business 18/State Highway 76 (White Springs hill) and take a right onto Kimberly Ave. (before entering the McGregor city limits) and a left onto King Road and will then intersect with the Great River Road.

  • Those with RV’s, campers, and trailers headed from Pikes Peak, Sny Magill, Clayton or Guttenberg wanting to get to downtown McGregor will want to turn left onto King Road (from the Great River Road) heading west, then taking a right onto Kimberly Ave..  From here, turn left onto Business 18/ State Highway 76 which will intersect onto Hwy 18.  Turn right and follow this to Marquette.  Just before the bridge approach, turn right onto Hwy 76 (road between towns) which will bring you into downtown McGregor.

  • The only semi access in and out of McGregor is via Hwy 76 between Marquette and McGregor. Semis will not be able to get to or from downtown McGregor via the Great River Road/ Walton Street or Business 18/State Highway 76 (White Springs Hill).  Those who disregard this notice and the signage will become stuck and may require assistance.
